Enter the Gungeon Altar Is Empty, What to Do Next

Here’s a step-by-step guide on what do next if enter the gungeon altar is empty

Step 1: Finding the Room with the Chimney

Finding the Room with the Chimney

In the game Enter the Gungeon, the first thing you need to do is locate the room on the first floor of the Keep of the Lead Lord that has a fireplace in it. Once you do this, you will be able to interact with the empty altar.

This room may or may not have enemies in it. Once you find it, you’ll need a water source, like a water barrel or the Mega Douser, to put out the fire. Doing this will unlock a secret room containing a trap door that requires two keys to open.

The trap door leading to the secret chamber known as the Oubliette will lead you into conflict with lots of enemies awaiting you. Although it is possible to clear this extra room by yourself, it may be beneficial to unleash an attack on the Keep of the Lead Lord boss before entering the Oublette in order to acquire an advantageous weapon.

Step 2: Enter the Gungeon Oubliette

Enter the Gungeon Oubliette

In step 2 of using the altar when empty in Enter the Gungeon, you must find the Old Crest located in the Oubliette. This secret chamber can be found by extinguishing the fire in the room with a fireplace on the first chamber and pulling the switch behind it. Then, on the map, you’ll see a trap door that needs 2 keys to open.

If you jump down the trap door, you’ll end up in the Oubliette, which looks like a sewer and is filled with hazardous waste and other dangerous things. The Old Crest is situated in a special treasure room within the Oubliette and must be taken before continuing with the next step.

Step 3: Try reaching the Altar Without Taking Damage

In order to reach the Altar without taking damage in Enter the Gungeon, one must first clear the secret Oubliette chamber and defeat the Blobulord boss. After this, the Old Crest must be taken from the Special Room, located within the Oubliette.

The Old Crest must then be taken to Chamber 2 – Gungeon Proper, where great caution must be taken in order to avoid taking damage as this will cause the player to lose the Old Crest and its accompanying armour.

It is recommended to use Blanks liberally in order to minimize damage taken. Finally, when the player reaches the Altar, the Old Crest must be placed on it for a secret stairway to appear beneath a nearby bullet coffin, leading to the Abbey of the True Gun.

Step 4: Accessing the Abbey of the True Gun

Accessing the Abbey of the True Gun

You have a better chance of obtaining potent upgrades in the Abbey of the True Gun once you have used the once-vacant altar. This floor is challenging, therefore be as well-prepared as possible before descending. It is best to keep at least one key until the Abbey of the True Gun chamber is over.

When attempting to navigate through the Abbey of the True Gun, it is important to take your time and be aware of your surroundings since you don’t have powerful  weapon. Watch out for enemies and traps, and make sure to clear each room before moving on.

You may also want to consider using a Blank to help clear a room without taking damage. Lastly, don’t forget to keep at least one key for the end of the chamber so you can open the doors to fight the Old King boss.

However, if you are able to conquer the Old King, you will be rewarded. You will receive one boss item and one synergy chest, making it worthwhile if you believe your run is strong enough.
