How to Get Mew in Pokemon Yellow

If you’re playing the classic version of Pokemon Yellow and want to get your hands on a Mew, then this blog post is for you! We’ll show you where to find the elusive creature and how to add them to your team. With a little bit of patience and luck, you’ll be ready to take on the Elite Four in no time.

Step 1: Nugget Bridge

You should probably read our tutorial on how to catch Abra first, too, because you’ll need one of these Flying or Teleporting Pokémon before you can get started. Note that if you wish to capture Abra, you must avoid the trainer who stands in the grassy area where he is located. The cause will become apparent shortly.

The glitch only works on the first visit to Cerulean City, so walk north on the Nugget Bridge and turn left once you arrive at the top. On the opposite side of the pond, there is a man in the grass. You should confront him with extreme caution. Once you enter his line of sight, click the menu icon as shown below.

save the game beforehand

To move closer to him, you must push the menu icon almost quickly after pressing down. This is the most difficult element of the glitch to accomplish, so be patient and save the game first.

To return to the Pokémon Center after opening the menu, employ a Pokémon that knows Fly or Teleport. As you teleport away from the trainer, you’ll know you did it correctly if an exclamation mark appears over them.

Step 2: Defeat YOUNGSTER Trainer

If you want to get back to Route 24, you need to head north on Nugget Bridge from Cerulean City, but this time turn right. You should defeat all of the trainers there with the exception of the YOUNGSTER trainer shown in the image below.

When you’ve finished with the other trainers, get back to the Pokémon Center in Cerulean City via teleport and get everyone’s Pokémon back in fighting shape. Returning north and up Nugget Bridge, proceed towards the YOUNGSTER trainer depicted in the preceding image. You should avoid walking directly in the direction of him. The glitch requires that you approach the block and then attempt to walk over him.

past the Youngster trainer

The highlighted location in the image above indicates where you need to walk. If you pass by the trainer in this posture, he will approach you and initiate a combat. Defeat the YOUNGSTER and return to the Pokémon Center via teleportation.

Final Step: Get Your Mew!

You’re quite well your way to obtaining the mythical 151st Pokémon now that the difficult part of the journey is finished.

Once you’ve finished up at the Pokémon Center, make one final trip north of Cerulean City to the Nugget Bridge.

As you ascend the bridge, the game will automatically halt; merely resume play to engage in combat with Mew. Now all that remains is to capture it. It is advantageous to have a Master Ball available to assure the capture.

Other Tips to Get Mew in Pokemon Yellow, Red or Blue

Acquire a Mew by Trading with Red Version

One of the easiest ways to get a Mew in Pokémon Yellow is to trade it from Pokémon Red or Blue. Mew is exclusive to Pokémon Red, so if you have a friend or family member with a copy, you can trade for one. To do this simply trade a Pokémon from your Yellow version to their Red version, then ask them to trade the Mew in return.

Make sure the Mew is at a low level so that it can learn any new moves and abilities you may want it to have. Trading Mew from Red version is one of the safest and most reliable ways to obtain this rare Pokémon.

Find a Glitch in Pokemon Yellow

Another glitch that can be used to obtain Mew is the Missingno Glitch. This glitch can be used in all three games (Red, Blue, and Yellow) and involves surfing along the right-hand side of Cinnabar Island.

By doing this, your game will generate a wild Missingno Pokemon in battle. Though there is a chance of obtaining MewTwo or Mew by using this glitch, it is also possible to experience game corruption with this glitch. Therefore, it should only be used with caution.

Use the Missingno Glitch to Obtain MewTwo or Mew

The Missingno glitch is a method of obtaining the rare Pokemon Mews and Mewtwo in Pokemon Yellow. This method requires the use of a long-range Trainer on Route 24 or 25. After encountering the Trainer, start the battle and use the “-” move as the first move.

This will cause Missingno to appear and will allow you to capture Mewtwo or Mew. Be sure to save your game before attempting this glitch as it may cause your game to freeze or corrupt your save file. After capturing the desired Pokemon, it is advised to turn off your game and restart it to ensure that the game is still functional.

Buy a Cheat Device for Your Game Boy or GBC

For those who want to take the easy route, you can purchase a cheat device for your Game Boy or Game Boy Color. These devices allow you to enter cheat codes that will generate various Pokemon, items, and other bonuses into the game. This is a great way to acquire Mew without having to use glitches or other methods.

With the cheat device, you can enter various codes that will generate MewThree and other rare Pokemon. This is a great way to get all the Pokemon you need without having to go through the hassle of trading or using other methods.
